Arsenal have reportedly been told that they would need to pay £45m in order to prise away Pau Torres from Villarreal.
The north London giants are said to be long-term admirers of the Spain international alongside Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are understood to be lining up a possible move for Torres next summer, but Marca claims that the Gunners are also in the running to sign him.
However, he won’t come on the cheap for either team as Villarreal are reluctant to accept anything less than the £45m release clause to sanction his departure.
The Gunners have made a vast improvement in the defensive shape this term and summer signing Gabriel Magalhaes has been their standout performer.
As a result, they don’t face the desperate need for further reinforcements, but Torres would be a quality addition to their ranks in the future.
The Gunners are expected to part ways with Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi in either January or next summer when their deals expire.
